Wesley's current situation:
My name is John Wesley Sego. Most people either call me Wesley or just Sego. I am 21 years of age and currently in my third year at UNA obtaining a degree in Chemistry and Industrial Hygiene. I work as a youth leader at a small local church and I am very blessed by the opportunity to do so. I would love to be the voice of Young and Free Alabama.

What does it mean to be free in America? What makes this generation so great? Are the Millenniums taking over, and what does this mean for our future? These are all questions that are being asked in today’s society. As a member of the Millennial generation, I feel obligated to enlighten anyone who might be interested. In America, freedom has reigned for 235 years! (i.e. since July 4, 1776). There have been many trials and tribulations, but as a whole it has made this country and the people in it who they are today. To be free is anarchy, let me explain. If I wanted a steak, but didn’t want to pay for it and there was no law that said I couldn’t just take what I wanted, I would get a steak. What if, however, the man with the steaks had a bat? He would just keep me from taking his steaks, this is true “freedom”. Now, the freedom that America has is freedom with ultimatums. This is great because I don’t want people bigger than me or people who have access to better firepower dictating what I do. In today’s world these freedoms can be taken for granted. I believe that the younger generation can see what is happening in the world and have a greater understanding for what it means to be free. In many ways the millennial generation understands freedom much to the degree that the greatest generation does. What makes this generation so great? Well, there are many answers to that question. To name a few: we are multitaskers, tech savvy, idealistic, diverse, and confident go-getters. This generation has grown with technology and it is a part of who they are and what they do. The generation today doesn’t care about political correctness or any of that stuff, just give us the facts and we’ll decide what is right or wrong. Give us a chance to do great things and it will happen. Are we taking over? You bet we are. Our generation is approaching the Baby Boomers in size and I believe will be just as great. What is in store for the future? It is hard to say. With the way things are going, it is not going to be pretty. There are always going to be ups and downs, it’s what you do during those times that define you. This is what is lost that must be found again. One might ask “what does it take to get through to the younger crowd”. To connect with the generation of today, one must have one critical feature. Honesty. It is a very simple concept but has been neglected by most. It is time to let go Baby Boomers, move out-of-the-way Generation X. The Millenniums’ are here.
